Catherine Foster
Professor Emeritus, Communication Studies, Canisius College
Graduation Year:
1984
Bio:
After my fellowship year, I returned to The Oak Ridger, the newspaper in Oak Ridge, Tenn., as science editor. I soon realized that I would rather be an advocate for science instead of a reporter of it, and I joined the News Bureau at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as science editor. In 1991, I became manager of media relations at Argonne National Laboratory, where I remained for 16 years. In 2007, I turned to education, and began teaching communication courses at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y, returning to my journalistic roots by directing the journalism program before retiring at the end of 2017. I now live in happy semi-retirement in Lake Mary, Florida, teaching online for Canisus and the University at Buffalo, and also teaching a course in risk and crisis communication at The University of Chicago.
