It may sound like the name of a TV station somewhere west of the Mississippi. But it’s our brand-new Knight Science Journalism video channel, launched on Vimeo this week with a video by Iván Carrillo Pérez, a 2016-17 KSJ fellow and a Mexico City-based science journalist with a background both in print and television.

At this year’s meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Iván interviewed Penelope Boston, head of a team of scientists who discovered strange, ancient microbes in the giant crystal caves of Naica, in the state of Chihuaha in northern Mexico.
Dr. Boston, the incoming director of NASA’s Astrobiology Institute at Moffett Field, California, says the expressions of DNA encapsulated in the giant crystals that make up the cave system represent novel methods of evolution, and expand our vision of the ways life can manifest on our planet. She announced the findings at the AAAS 2017 meeting in Boston.
