SUMMARY:Seminar: Penny Chisholm on what the smallest living things can teach us about life
DESCRIPTION:The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT is excited to welcome Dr. Penny Chisholm\, Professor of Biology at MIT\, for a seminar on her work on Prochlorococcus.\n\nProchlorococcus is the smallest and most abundant photosynthetic organism on the planet.  It is a marine picocyanobacterium whose global abundance is estimated to be 3 octillion cells.  Dr. Chishholm was lucky enough to be in on its discovery about 40 years ago and has devoted her research to studying it ever since — from the genome to the global scale. She will describe the journey this tiny cell has taken her on over the course of her career and the things it has taught her about life.\nPlease contact Learning and Events Coordinator Claire Sadar if you are interested in attending. \nphoto credit: Christopher Michel
