Seminar: Ciara Sypherd on Animal Communication
April 15 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT is excited to welcome Ciara Sypherd for a seminar on their research into animal communication.
Ciara Sypherd is a PhD student in Bioengineering at Harvard University, where they study non-human animal communication using machine learning to understand how other species think, feel, and interact. Their interdisciplinary research draws from a background in aerospace engineering, astrobiology, and biogeosciences, and is grounded in a commitment to jargon-free science communication and ethical innovation. Their talk will cover current communication research methodologies—from ants to whales, pigs to primates—highlighting common threads across species and the role of scientifically grounded empathy.
Please contact Learning and Events Coordinator Claire Sadar if you are interested in attending.
