The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT is excited to welcome Angela Saini, KSJ ’13 and faculty at the Graduate Program in Science Writing at MIT, for a talk on her book The Patriarchs: The Origins of Inequality.

In her 2023 book, The Patriarchs, Angela Saini explores how gendered inequality first emerged. Drawing from biology, anthropology, archaeology, and history, she argues that male domination is both more recent and more fragile than we assume.

Angela Saini is a science journalist and Assistant Professor of Science Writing at MIT. She is the author of four books, which have together been translated into 18 languages, and is currently working on her fifth. Her bestselling 2019 book Superior: The Return of Race Science was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize, and her latest, The Patriarchs: The Origins of Inequality, was a finalist for the Orwell Prize for Political Writing. She has a Masters in Engineering from the University of Oxford.
