It’s a busy day for the Post‘s Juliet Eilperin, including one that lets her exercise instincts honed by years as a political writer – before getting the environmental beat four years ago.
On the front page she recounts the maverick – which in this case appears to mean hard to read – environmentalism of Sen. John McCain. She quotes one source up high as saying that from a conservationist standpoint the candidate is among the best on the GOP side of the aisle – and at the same time he “is perhaps the most unpredictable, erratic, of those votes.” He is, she writes, resolute in his concern over greenhouse gas emissions.
Then inside Eilperin turns to a very different, purely environmental topic: disappearing and endangered frogs and other amphibians. Her focus is on efforts to preserve captive populations of such creatures before they go extinct, in hope people might eventually return them to the wild. She’s also going online today to discuss both stories with readers
