As a magazine writer, Heather Smith has written about bananas, weeds, global warming and the neverending struggle between invasive beetles and Homeland Security. As a city reporter, she has written about politics, budgets, shootings, stabbings and various small fires. The high point of this so far involved a year and a half spent co-managing Mission Loc@l, a hyperlcocal news laboratory in San Francisco. A graduate of UC Berkeley's Northgate School of Journalism, she is currently at work on a book about insects, humans and the various misunderstandings that arise between them.
