Before wandering into journalism, Joe Rojas-Burke studied biology at Columbia University and worked as a cell biology researcher at the Rockefeller University in New York City. He completed the graduate program in science communication at the University of California Santa Cruz in 1990. He has been a staff writer at The Oregonian, a daily newspaper in Portland, and a contributing writer with Consumer Reports publications in New York. His writing awards include a First Prize for Enterprise Reporting from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, and the C.B. Blethen Award for Distinguished Consumer Affairs Reporting.
