Last night we watched a DVD of a fairly recent movie, Barney's Version. In it Paul Giamatti plays a near-rich and near-intellectual sad sack. The guy is an often-disagreeable, flawed character but the movie as does the novel that inspired it has a twist and a satisfying ending. So I'm glad we didn't follow my instinct to switch it off part way through. Near that ending what looked like a Canadair flying boat water bomber scoops its load from a lake in a sequence, one learns to amazement, composed almost all by computer graphics.
