Matthew Herper seems to keep pretty busy at Forbes by blogging, managing (or helping to manage) the populous Forbes blog network, and tweeting on medical news. Now and then, however, he somehow finds time to write a story, and his latest is a good one.
It's about two guys from queens, which sounds like the beginning of a TV pitch with uncertain prospects. But these two guys are changing drug discovery, Herper writes, which might not make a better TV pitch but does make a nice story.
Herper's opus is about George Yancopoulos, 53, the chief scientific officer of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (pictured), and Chief Executive Leonard Schleifer, 61. They have made Regeneron a success by using "a unique method" Yancopoulos's team has devised to put large swaths of human DNA in mice and use the rodents to quickly generate human drugs, Herper writes.
The technology is interesting, and so are the people. And the company's prospects seem bright. Reading the story might make you a fortune in the market, or it might be just a nice way to consume some good science journalism. I suggest you take a look.
