Sharpen those pencils and get those pitches written: A Dr. Oz print magazine will be launched in the first half of 2014. If it does well enough, it could become a 10-issue-a-year publication by the end of the year.
Hearst Magazines, which publishes Cosmopolitan, Elle, Esquire, Marie Claire, O The Oprah Magazine, Popular Mechanics, and others, said in a press release that Oz "truly is America's doctor" and that his "spirit and message clearly resonate with American women."
The initial newsstand run will be 350,000 copies, with 450,000 additional copies going to certain subscribers of other Hearst magazines.
Oz is a graduate of the Oprah Winfrey college of women's television, where he appeared on air frequently. The Dr. Oz Show won its third Emmy Award in 2013 for best informative talk show, and Oz has won two Emmys for best informative talk show host.
As an occasional drop-in viewer (only when I'm switching channels, I swear), I can say that Oz gives his viewers a lot of helpful information. He also gives them a lot of alternative medicine nonsense, as Michael Specter pointed out in February in a critical article in The New Yorker.
Oz said in the release that the new magazine "will provide women with everything they need to feel inspired and live a long, healthy, joyful life."
All they need–in one convenient monthly package.
