The weirdest and saddest story of the day was this item by Sam Wood that I stumbled across at The Philadelphia Inquirer:

The Delaware father of five children who was arrested Tuesday for "waterboarding" his 11-year-old daughter is a [sic] internationally known pediatrician who specializes in so-called near-death experiences.

Dr. Melvin Morse has been on Oprah and Larry King and published on near-death experiences, according to Wood. Delaware state police said the man's daughter told them that "Morse held her face under a running faucet causing water to flood up her nose and keeping her from breathing. The girl said Morse called the punishment 'waterboarding.'"

The girl and her 5-year-old sister are in the custody of the state's Division of Family Services.

This short story cries out for more extensive coverage.
