You gotta read this. Usually when a reporter scans a tip or clue to a possible story and jumps to conclusions and gets all excited until the woops, no story moment when one realizes that’s not what it means after all, there’s a pang of regret and then on to find a real story.
At the flamboyant on line tech news outlet The Register in the UK, its clever science writer Lewis Page writes his first instinct anyway, under the hed “Shuttle Discovery to bring back PLAGUE RODENTS from SPACE.”
Half way through our boffin-mad, often charming if unconstrained reporter concedes the truth. This is an odd kind of journalism, even in a playful pub where over-enthusiasm on the science beat is the norm.
